At Patrick Kaymar Photography, we pay attention to every detail that goes into your session, we are creating art after all! Finding what to wear for your session can be tricky, so here are some tips for styling yourself!

Colors

Stick to neutrals

Avoid bright and fluorescent colors
Think about the location of your session
For grad sessions, keep the color or your stole, cord, cap, and gown in mind
For group sessions, make sure everyone is wearing coordinating colors

Textures, Patterns, & Layering

Avoid writing and logos on shirts, unless you are featuring a school name shirt for your grad session
Avoid crazy patterns or textures on your outfit
Textures such as ruffle or tulle are a great addition to your outfit, but make sure it does not interfere with any graduation regalia

Shoes

Think about the location of your session. For example, the beach is a great place for being barefoot or wearing flip flops, and the woods is best for flat, closed-toes shoes
Keep your comfort in mind! Don't wear something that is going to make you uncomfortable. If you are getting a new pair of shoes for your session, take them on a test run to make sure you can walk and stand in them
Avoid running sneakers and flip flops! Ladies typically wear heels or flats, but keep in mind your comfort as there will most likely be some walking throughout your session. Gentlemen, avoid wearing running shoes and opt for some dress shoes or nicer casual shoes. If your session requires more walking, consider bringing a change of shoes to do the walking in

Style

Your comfort is the most important part! Wear something that shows your personality. Male sure you are comfortable and ready to pose
Avoid baggy or tight clothing. Choose something that fits you well. Make sure you have tried on this outfit and you are comfortable in it
For grad sessions, choose something that you are comfortable wearing with and without your gown as we will be mixing and matching it with your graduation gear

Hair & Makeup

For grad sessions, make sure your hair is done in a way that can accommodate wearing your cap. As well, make sure it is out of your face
Makeup application is up to you, but if you are choosing to use a professional makeup artist, make sure they know how to create a natural look for you that will photograph well. If you are doing your own makeup, try doing a test run before your session
Feel free to bring things such as a hairbrush or powder to touch up your look

The Smaller Details

Do not forget to steam every part of your outfit! This is especially important for grad sessions. Make sure you steam or iron out all the wrinkles for your gown, stole, and hood. Store everything hanging up, and make sure not to toss your regalia in the car for your session. Do not stuff it in a bag either, hang it up or lay it across the back seats
Ladies, don't forget about your nails! There may be close up shots with your hands visible, so if you don't paint your nails, be sure to at least clean them up. Remove any chipping nail polish and file cleanly
Jewelry can be a fun addition to your look. Keep it simple to not take away from you, but have fun!
